Haha I did the same thing in college but I think I lasted a week with the flip phone. The Verizon people were so smug about it, too. Mostly I was worried about emails and not knowing if classes were cancelled and needing to lug my computer around all the time.

That has got to be the coolest photo of you two from the 2010’s. Future album cover for sure. 👍🏻

Katie, I haven’t listened yet, but my husband got a flip phone last year and he is thrilled with it. And I feel like a bad person on the regular😂

I never got a smart phone at all. I call myself a conscientious objector, and it makes everyone around me crazy, but I think only once have I said, "Right now, I wish I had a smart phone because I can't ___." That's the only time and at the moment I can't even remember what was in that blank. I am much healthier without it. I do have an iPad that I use to play music from--as in, I'm a choir director/flute player and I read my music on it. What I don't do is text at all, and I'm pretty darned happy being completely unavailable. I hate typing on a flat screen and I hate autocorrect and I hate being that available. There's no up side. My family thinks it's hilarious that I write characters who text. I always have to say, I know the culture--I live with the culture in my house. I just choose to opt out.

You are part of the reason I finally decided to quit Instagram (had been debating for a while). I really want to quit smart phone life, but when you think through the logistics it’s more challenging than you would think, especially with email and bank accounts having two factor authentication. I think at least one adult per household would probably have to have one, right?

I think it certainly makes our lives easier with me still having a smartphone, but I think we could manage alright if I eventually take the plunge. For now I'm 'okay' with my smartphone use, but it requires a lot of self control I don't always have! Hope that social media-less life is going well !!

Yes! If you two blaze the trail then maybe I can talk my husband into it 😂

FWIW, I get 2-factor authentication on gmail and on my flip phone.

This was so good Katie, thank you! I have a smart phone but there are times I long for the pre-smart phone days for sure. I’m from Generation X so that may have something to do with it 😊
