What a cozy and heartwarming read. Your ending made me think of one of my favorite G.K. Chesterton quotes of all time: “Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, ‘Do it again’; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. Is it possible that God says every morning, ‘Do it again’ to the sun; and every evening, ‘Do it again’ to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.”
I always think the same thing about ghoulish decorations at Halloween — who decided this was festive? Haha. I've seen much worse than skeletons in our neighborhood. Some of it is fairly disturbing; it always startles me when these same neighbors switch to twinkly Christmas lights and, even, nativity scenes. We have a neighbor we pass during our family bike ride who boasts an inflatable but menacing ghoul, arms arching over the sidewalk. Meanwhile, the minivan in the driveway sports a "Jesus is Lord" bumper sticker. I sort of want to snap a photo and caption it "The American South."
This was just beautiful, Katie. I’ve re-read it three times and have been trying to find the words to say about it but keep coming up short. Thank you for your words ❤️
Goodness, I enjoyed this so much! It's so wonderful to think of the world as generous, isn't it? And I loved what you said about your daughter understanding resurrection through nature and childhood. Just beautiful.
As always I can’t get enough of your writing Katie! I’m drawn in and love that I always come away with a deeper appreciation of the world! Your photographs are beautiful too, I especially liked the church photo, with the sky and contrast of fall colors, and cemetery.
Beautiful thoughts, and important too! May I recommend the use of cash rather than digital currency. I shudder at the Venmo code usage more than skeletal decoration.

This is one of my favorite Chesterton quotes too! I think of it often - so many of my days involve 'again, again, again..' xD
I’m there too. And the agains are sometimes with very strange things haha

That was wonderful to read on a Monday morning and remember good things 😊
Love this one, Katie. Especially the magpies!

Your lyrical writing brings a tear and smile to me today, resting in bed. Thank you.
This is beautiful in so many ways. ♥️
That was a peaceful read :)
